The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism has released Maui's tourism numbers for June. They were awful. Here are the lowlights:

• Total visitors down 22% from June 2007
• Domestic arrivals down 22%
• International visitors down 21%
• Japanese visitors down 45%
• Canada down 18%

This decline, while startling, is not a surprise if you have been on island. The impact on Maui real estate is now being felt.
